SugarDrive works with your smartphone (Device 1), which receives Dexcom data. It uses your phone’s hotspot to retrieve readings. A second device (Device 2), such as another smartphone or a computer, is required temporarily for setup.
Step 1: Verify Dexcom Sharing
- Setup Dexcom Follow if it is not currently enabled.
- Enable sharing with at least one follower.
- Visit uam1.dexcom.com to verify your Dexcom Follow credentials also used for Dexcom Clarity.
Step 2: Understand Display Controls
- Top Button: Turns the display on/off.
- Bottom Button: Enters configuration mode.
- M5 Button: Toggles brightness levels.
Step 3: Prepare Device 1 (Your Smartphone)
- Go to Settings > Network > Hotspot and Tethering > Wi-Fi Hotspot.
- Write down the hotspot name and password (tap password field to reveal it).
- Toggle hotspot ON.
- Note: iPhones allow 90 seconds for a connection. Toggle hotspot off and on to reset the window.
Step 4: Use Device 2 for Configuration
You have two options for accessing the configuration page:
Option 1: Use the QR Codes
- Power on the SugarDrive display. A QR code will be shown.
- Scan the QR code with Device 2 to open the configuration page.

Select the SugarDrive WiFi network

Step 5: Connect SugarDrive to WiFi
Select WiFi configuration
→
Select Hotspot or WiFi Network
→
Enter password for selected Hotspot or WiFi network
→
If connection fails try re-entering password
→
Select OK when connection is successful
→
Select Cancel to exit WiFi configuration
Step 6: Connect Dexcom Follow
Select ‘Dexcom Configuration’
→
Enter your Dexcom Follow username and password then select ‘Save’
→
Select ‘OK’ after the Dexcom credential test is complete.

Notes:
- If the display exits configuration mode, turn it off and on to restart.
- Device 2 will reconnect to its usual network after setup.
- The display shows BG data as long as Device 1’s hotspot is on.
- If Device 1 moves away (e.g., leaves the vehicle), SugarDrive will lose connection. Toggle the hotspot to reconnect.
